Well from here until April the crew from Rainydaze Guide Service will be on the ice on a mission. Today marks day one for myself. Fished on 7-8 inches of ice. Took my sled through 4-5 inches of snow cover, and encountered no slush (WOW IS THAT NICE!!). With the minimal snowcover on the main basin due to our late freeze up I’d expect a great base formation of ice if we can avoid the snowmachine for a few more days. Action was literally non-stop, but not the “Daze Tanks” we seek. Tomorrow will have us working in a different direction trying to pinpoint the big girls. Our fish were predominately coming from the bottom, and utilizing the bottom for cover (Not a good sign). The smaller walleyes were literally on the Marcum for the entire 4 hours I was on the ice (Again…..Not great). Only spotted 4 schools of baitfish. 1 cut off on presumably a pike, and a break off on the hook set on a mystery fish with a lot of weight. Nice to be out no doubt, but I’ll leave those smaller guys for someone else. Catching piles of 10-15 inchers
Loading the rod up on Tanks
We’ll find them soon!! The one fun thing about Rainy Lake is need a short memory. Last year is last year. Great spots turn poor. Cold spots turn Hot and there is NO SUBSTITUTE for time on the ice.
ICE 2010/1011 is here…….LIVE IT!!
