Got a call from my boys a couple weeks ago wanting to go fishing, while that’s not unusual they said the wives and kids would not be coming so no entertaining the families just fishing. These trips seem few and far between so I was excited, having been on a fair walleye and great smallie bite I was pumped to get them on lots fish, my main concern was the bad wind we have been having, I don’t care what anyone says you do not need wind on Rainy. Got up there in the afternoon Thursday and went with a friend to check some spots before the kids came. Bass were slow but did pop this nice 30.5″ 11 lb. walleye so was excited for the next day. The boys made it along with a college buddy. Wasted all morning chasing smallies which didn’t like the warm weather and shut down. Went to a few of my walleye spots and did OK, ended up with 64 fish. On saturday decided to throw my bottom bouncers back in the boat and try spinners with crawlers, kinda late in the year but I had a feeling. Had been using a #5 blade but after experimenting downsized all the way down to #2. Ended up pulling 90 fish, yes, we did use a clicker. Over 2 1/2 days caught 216 fish about 2/3 on spinners and the rest mostly paddle tails. Had 19 24-25″, and 1 27.25″ Couldn’t believe all the nice 16-22″ fish. The northerns moved in one of my fall spots and got this 39″ along with 8 33-36″ . The older all my kids get these times seem harder to come by but I think they now know why I like Rainy so much.
