Finally had the lake lay down Saturday so wanted to give the Moxies a shot. Went with Capt. John so forced to go after smallies. We ended up with about 50 smallies most from 17-19.5″ I just can’t break the 20″ mark but the best time is still ahead. Did get 27 walleyes but the biggest was only 24″. The majority of my fish were caught on the moxies and a few on paddletails. John bought a bunch of moxies from me when I left to see if I was just lucky or they really work. Last 2 weekends have been really windy but my spinner bite is still going averaging about 24 a time and this skinny 28″ the biggest. Only about 30% slot with the rest nice 15-17″. It’s amazing with all the islands that you cannot get out of the wind some times.

    Hey Paul,

What color Moxies are you using for the Smallies? What color jig head are you rigging them with?

Oystershell with purple pearl head caught the most did use the daves blues? and it did OK. My paddle tails are always oystershell. What was interesting is that when I used a 3/8 head it fell too fast but that caught most of the bass, then I would switch to the paddle tail on a lite jig and catch a few more. Most were in 25′. It does seem like the moxie plastic does get tore up easier than the paddletail, not sure why, maybe harder hits. A fair number of my walleyes have been spitting up smelt on the north arm so I’ve been trying to match the color and oystershell works good, I think next week I will try firecracker as it looks like good also with a few more sparkles.

Makes perfect sense Paul!! Thanks for sharing some great information!! I too prefer the oyster shell color, but have also liked the firecracker/chart. tail in the ringworms. I believe Holst likes the Chartruesse orange core on Ringies!! Not sure the entire color selection of the Moxies yet. I think I have a total of 4 moxies!! Apparently when I kidded about hoarding them someone else actually did it!
