Timely Fall Cooldown!!

It appears September has been escorted via brisk Canadian air. Temperatures in our extended forecast in “Borderland” show highs in the mid 50’s to low 60’s for the next 10 days. I believe my wood boiler is having an anxiety attack. Nights look to drop into the mid 30’s to upper 40’s These cool nighs will put Pre fall patterns into motion. Surface temperatures will drastically drop between now, and our Houseboat excursion. I’d like to believe the fish will have adequate time to re-adjust, and will likey be putting on the feedbag like the IDO Excursion crew at shorelunch!! I’ve been checking some of my traditional fall spots with some big fish starting to set up camp. Deer are starting to move with Bucks getting a bit fiesty, and morning fog shows are now commonplace!! Tough to beat Autumn on Rainy Lake!! My dad and I are heading to Pasha lake on a Black Bear hunt!! I suspect my dad is getting nervous for a 4 legged “Yogi” staredown.

Are you talking about a “turnover” period? If so, do you normally see much of a drop off in fishing or is this mostly myth in your opinion?

Not referring to a lake turnover, and that typically doesn’t happen until much later in the fall like towards the end of October often times. Each year is a bit different. What I’m referring to is when the tempertatures rise in the beginning of the summer, and fall in the beginning of the fall there is often a bit of an adjustment period for the fish. Fish are continuosly caught throughout these times of change, but sometimes fish might need a few day to get there groove on once again. I believe we’ll be far removed from this temperature adjustment. Now just hope for some consistent weather patterns to sit on top of us on our trip!!

    Consistent weather?

Given that our group is going, it is almost guaranteed to be consistently cool, rainy, and windy.

But hey, at least it will be consistent..

Fishing, hunting, fishing, hunting……can it get any better??? I am all packed & heading north, bright & early tomorrow AM. I have plenty of empty coolers along to take lots of bear meat home!! Can’t wait to look down my gun barrel & see a big “old” black bear in front of me. I don’t imagine that I will sleep all that much tonight……Ha!

Although dad and I didn’t get close an personal with a Black bear there were a couple other guys that did. There were 2 bears shot from 7 hunters in the last 4 days, and Chad said it was the worst he has ever seen. He started out the season going 9 for 10!! No problem here. Had a great time, and that makes me want to go back even more now!! HAMMERED the walleyes every morning! I am working on loading some clips of the AWESOME fishing and scenery of the area. Very cool combo trip!! Fishing and bear hunting will continue to be on my list for next year if not the year after!!
