I think I will be able to borrow a Navionics chips from someone for a trip to Rainy Lake. Just curious on some thoughts on whether Lakemaster is that much better than the Navionics to warrant a purchase of the Lakemaster chip for Rainy/LOW.

    Thx in adv,

IMO Lakemaster is much more detailed. My Navionics will get you to the structure, but the Lakemaster I have will help get you the spot on the spot. I am sure DAZE can better describe what I am talking about.

    Hi Raap,

I currently run the latest version of the Lakemaster chip in my Humminbird 1197c. The 1ft contours lakemaster features provides a superior advantage while disecting the endless mass of structure here on our borderland water. I’ve little experience with the Navionics chip as I’ve always ran Lakemaster in my guide boats. Regardless of what you decide make sure your unit is capable of running whichever chip you have. Have a great fishing trip on Rainy Lake!! Our walleye fishing has been absolutely awesome!! We’ve had some BRUTAL winds as of late though with reports of 7ft waves over the weekend . FORTUNATELY I was in Duluth doing some school shopping for my daughter, and wasn’t out in it. I’d say the biggest waves I’ve ever been in were around 5 feet, but through the grapevine from a couple longtime Rainy Lake fisherman these were legitimate 7 foot waves with a massive 20 feet in between the swells making spanning the waves nearly impossible for most vessels!! Sounds like there were a couple boating accidents due to the hazardous weather in which I know of no injuries. Today we’re sitting at a comforatble 59 degrees as I henpeck this response, and it sounds like the weather is going to be fairly nice late this week into the weekend.

Get the Lakemaster, was up to Rainy for my first time in July. I ran the Lakemaster on my HB997 at the wheel, and my navionics on the bow in my HB788. I could not beleive the difference between the Lakemaster and Navionics. Most of the time I would spin my 997 around on the ram so I could see the map from the front of the boat. Lakemaster was tons better with detail.

Just got the Lakemaster Wisconsin chip, for most lakes that I fish the Navionics is fairly similar so far. Headed out to Green Bay in a few weeks and will see the difference there.
