This is a 24.5″ walleye caught up the north arm of Rainy on July 18th. Just got the DNR info back and it was really interesting. It was tagged near Ericksburg in early April of this year. This stream goes into Rat root lake and into black bay of Rainy. I caught it up the north arm about 34 miles away. Another one was caught another 14 miles up at the far end of the lake. So far 6 have been caught up the north arm and so far none east of black bay. Very interesting how far they travel and how many different spawning areas they pass by.

Interesting info. Wonder if DNR will ever publish data on this?

    Very Cool Paul!!

My Bad………But I caught a tagged fish East of Black Bay, but West of the Brule on the US side in the end of May. NO paper and pen in the boat, but tried to take a picture of the numbers to call it in. Until now I forgot all about it. I’ll have to look back at my pics and see if I can make out the numbers to call it in. May be one of the first tagged Rat Root Spawners to head east.

Would be interesting where yours was tagged. When you turn one in they send you a map with marks where all the tagged fish were caught and dates. Besides the 7 up the north arm 10 where caught in the US from black bay, the mouth of black bay and then west into jackfish and sand bay.

My walleye was caught in the back channel around Dove Bay. If I recall correctly it was around 24 inches.
