As if any of you boys needed additional reasons to be further AMPED up about this years Houseboat Excursion with Rainy Lake Houseboats I thought you might be interested……….THAT THE EYES ARE FLAT OUT STACKED on the reefs this summer. Keep in mind although we put the heat to the walleyes last September during our Excursion we had endured a cold summer which had only a percentage of those big walleyes inhabiting main lake reefs (Hard to believe huh!!). This year with lake temps warming up early in the season those walleyes are highly concentrated in Freakishly large numbers on many Main Lake reefs. 50-75 walleye days are commonplace even in the “Dog Daze” of summer with about 1/2 of the fish being slot fish, and 1/2 “Hot Oil Bath” candidates!! I fully expect this to be a flat out IDO SMACKDOWN here in September during our Houseboat Excursion. Lets hear a **** Yeah!! If your already packing!! I’ve also talked to James about a possible gathering the night before at Thunderbird lodge for “Smart Talk” and Cocktails?? Thought it would be fun to get the gameplan down over a couple cool ones within walking distance of our Floating Condos that will be departing in the morning.

The big ones are here now. Here is my 30.5″ from Sunday, won’t post the 28.5″ as it looks small. No one with me, camera was up front on the seat.

    **** YEAH!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the updates, it makes the wait seem to take that much longer. Please let us know on the get together the night before so we can consider changing plans if I find others in the group interested in social smart talk hour or hours.

We’ll be putting on a meet and greet the night before the trip that includes seminar(s) by Granrud that will jump start your knowledge of the lake immensely. Keep the night before departure open. I’ll have details available within a week.

    Nice fish Paul.

Understatement! I really hope we hit this one on the button this year. We caught lots of fish last year. This year I want to see the hogs hit the bottom of the nets. And some of those monster crappies would be a nice touch too.

Can you make that happen for us, Chris?!

I’ll start my big fish dance. (Not Pretty) A normal cool down come mid-September will tilt the odds in our favor for those big 27+ fish to be much more common. As you know last year we had gobs of 20-26 inch fish (Rainy dinks), and I believe my buddies 28 on film took top fish honors (think he’s waiting for his grand prize still). I suspect this year we’ll pull far more fish 27 inches and up. I hate to say it, but we really need Fall weather. Not Watersliding weather, but put you bibs on mornings!! Get a thermos of coffee and some big minnows!! Crappies Might be worth making it to T-bird for that CLASSIFIED INFO!! I sure hope Slider doesn’t find this thread. Heck then we’ll be talking smallies too. I’m excited for the night before get together at T-bird I’ll give an opening welcome, and closed door discussion on what has been working as well as patterns people can utilize for there trip. It should be well worth driving up the night before besides the surely great time around T-birds lounge talking fall fishing!! Will you post contact info for Thunderbird Lodge so our boys can be sure to get their room in time?? Also is there ANY openings for 1-2 people??

These pics were a few taken the week after our houseboat trip last year as I just scrolled back on last falls pics. If you recall we had a big cooldown immediately after our trip which had me stoking up the woodboiler in September. A day or two afterwards…….. Trust me cooling water temps…..GOOD!!

Although not a “POLISHED” seminar speaker with overhead projecters and Laptop powerpoints I’ll get everyone up to speed on Rainy Lakes Fall Footballs!! This should assure that on departure day boys can tie up the big condos, and go catch fish!!

Is there a group rate or something at the Thunderbird?

I had asked the question on the original forum for the Rainy Lake GTG (under General Discussion), about whether the seminar was the tuesday night before the start. I then got a reply that last year the seminar was on wed night at the houseboat site and it would probably be the same this year. I don’t know if the majority of the people are still watching that thread, if so, maybe we should clarify what is going on. I could do that of course, but I am not savvy to all the details, you know…

The seminar will be the night before the event. That way we’re not burning fishing time holding a seminar at the campsite. I have a call with the Thunderbird scheduled for sunday. I should have all the details hammered out by sunday night but the plan is to have a meeting room set aside where everyone can get together, soak up Chris’ info and plan their fishing destination for the following day, get to know everyone and grab a bite to eat.

I think this would work the best, and would be a lot of fun to rub elbows with all of the return fisherman as well as newcomers to this years In Depth Outdoors Excursion!! I know everyone including myself will be getting the walleye itch as we transport through Voyageurs National Park to our final destination. As soon as those big floating condos through Rainy Lake Houseboats tied up it is GAME ON!!

Thunderbird lodge is a very nice place, and has both rooms/cabins at reasonable rates. Once information is posted it would be wise to get reservations locked up asap as this is PRIME TIME FOR MONSTER WALLEYES!! I trust we will be able to postall pertinent information regarding room reservations come early next week if not before. Those with some flexability in their schedule wishing to arrive earlier for a possibly a few more days of fishing on their own likey can also be accomodated at T-bird. The same will likey be true for those wishing to extend their trip on the back end of our event

Here’s the scoop on the seminar:

The seminar will be held the night before departure so fishing time isn’t wasted when everyone would rather be out in their boats netting fish!

I’ve started a private member group to help us finish out the planning for the 2010 Rainy Lake Get Together. Find that here >>> http://www.idofishing.com/groups/view.php?gid=54&page=0

Please request access and spread the word to the others in your group to do the same. I’d like to see everyone checking that forum weekly up to our trip so everyone has all the latest info.

Wow Chris as if I wasn’t pumped up enough just typing posts on the site the last few days, then you have to go and post some more pics and a story like that…. The trip cannot get here fast enough!

Oh, I am watching this thread.
Crappies, there are no open water crappies in Rainy.
Be careful Chris, you might want to show those smallies some of the respect that they deserve or your waypoints just might disappear one night
