The Pleasure was all mine taking fellow IDO member Nic Habeck, and his wife Katie out on the Pristine Rainy Lake yesterday. Despite Mother Natures Fury we put the Frabill conservation series net around some Rainy Lake Tankers!! As we discussed later over a “Sha-Sha Long Island” it is impossible to control the weather conditions, and anglers simply need to be able to be adaptive to consistenly boat big fish. Rainy Lake like no other lake often throws yesterdays success or failures out the window. Here today Gone tomorrow is something I live by this time of year. Making a Gametime decision I decided to focus on a transitional bite which would help shield us from the steady 25 mph North wind thrusting in this coldfront to go with the Mayfly Hatch!! This morning temperatures are reading a balmy 37 degrees…. !! Still “Team Habeck” landed some Rainy Lake Gems, and helped Raindaze guide service with our 41st and 42nd Pike surpassing the 10lb threshold since May 1st. Nics biggest pike went a GIRTHY 41 inches, and nearly took off my finger!! Congrats Nic on that Freshwater Dolphin!! Nic also apparently only catches walleyes that are over 24 inches . It is a great big fish pattern that should produce Drag Screaming action for the remainder of your trip, and as you likely noticed….”Not everybody is doing it!!” Not sure if we saw a single boat until late afternoon. Great time on the water, and afterwards on the Sha-Sha decks overlooking the beautiful Black Bay. Hope your pictures of the Deer and Fawns turned out!! Hope to fish with you again soon!!
