I’ve been seeing some pretty happy anglers each morning on Rainy Lake Houseboats!! Such a great site watching families pulling their fishing boats miles into Voyageurs National Park!! Trip of a lifetime you can do every year!!

Just curious if my family were to do that do the house boats have a captain or would I drive it while towing my boat?

    Hi Wade,

As Rangerski mentioned each group captains their own houseboat. They are very easy to operate, and Rainy Lake Houseboats has several check in people that give easy to follow operating instructions before you take off for your trip. I’ve had the opportunity to operate one of Rainy Lake Houseboats vessels from a flybridge (UP TOP), and I can tell you the view was breathtaking!! My daughter and wife were lounging in the hot tub going through the Brule Narrows!! They will assign an individual that will depart with you and start you down the lake with your fishing boats towed behind. They then have that guy picked up, and your on your way!! You have marine radio contact with the Rainy Lake Houseboat base, and very informative mapping of Rainy Lake including recommended houseboat sites. Billy, Tommy and the entire crew are fantastic to deal with!! I always tell our customers a houseboat trip is one of the best ways to enjoy Voyageurs National Park!!

Hey Wade. Get the motor/prop insurance if you go, Solder’s Point has way too many bouys.

That would be an awesome get-a-way, but a little pricey for my family to swing. Definately something for the wish list, though!

Houseboat navigation is relatively simple as long as you remember to keep red bouys off to your right (Starboard)side, and green to your left (Port)side as you navigate up the lake towards Kettle falls from Rainy Lake Houseboats. Of course the reverse is true upon your return. Main navigational routes are clearly marked for boaters safety.
