After initiating a post concerning our various colored walleyes this morning I headed out on a guide trip with a group renting from Rainy Lake Houseboats. We honestly weren’t color specific when fishing Tank Eyes today!! Besides putting a flat our BEATDOWN on the big walleyes my customer caught arguably the coolest walleye I’ve ever seen in all my years of walleye fishing. This tank walleye seemingly had Smallmouth patches or bars to it, and had glowing yellow marks. The fish measured 27 1/4 inches, and in all honesty if that fish would have surpassed 28 inches I probably would have lobbied to keep this freak fish for the cabin. Take a close look at the various picture angles of this oddball!! We caught around 45 fish between 19-27 1/4 inches with the average fish running in the 23 inch class. Customers boated 2 PB’s today…….. along with that beautiful walleye his dad landed his PB 38 inch pike!! Yet another fantastic day on Rainy Lake. As I tied up this morning the boys stated that “fishing was TERRIBLE yesterday” boating only a couple “DINKS”. When I mentioned we put the net around 25 eyes between 25-27 inches 2 days ago there were more than a few eyebrows rose Doubt there are any questions now!! Simply Awesome job boys!!

Pulling away from the team in their Rainy Lake Houseboat I almost felt sad coming back home. Those boys have 6 more days of smacking fish, and talking smart!! Is there anything else??

Way cool fish for sure but had you kept it and had it reproduced accurately I can just imagine the remarks… “Who’s your taxidermist? “What’d he do?… fingerpaint it?” “That’s not what they look like…”

You’d of had to tell that story over and over….

Rainy lake is a special fishery no doubt. Can fish complex at times, but when anglers dial in the right combination can be simply fantastic. Over the past 3 weeks we’ve experienced next to zero boat traffic except in a few locations. Catching loads of big fish is one thing….Catching them without a zoo circling you is simply priceless for this guy!! As long as our water temperatures remain at a relative constant these fish are going to get heat from the Daze Fish Casket. Keep in mind CPR is critical for all anglers especially when putting the net around 30-50 fish per day that are TOO BIG!! I just picked up a Frabill conservation series net with the protective coating to help quicken the process for us. First day in the boat will be today.

Good Point!! LOL!! Such a neat looking fish. I’ll let her grow a bit!! We’ve all seen taxidermy work that looks like a “Wallmouth” (Strange cross between a Walleye and a smallmouth” But maybe this is what they caught.

You’d of had to tell that story over and over….
