Took a quick snapshot of a Rainy Lake Houseboat tied up on one of the many thousands of miles of pristine shoreline here on Rainy Lake yesterday. Spending a night on the lake in the comforts of a Houseboat is unmatched, and flat out Dang Fun anytime of year!! May and September would be my personal favorites as a hardcore angler. I couldn’t help but to ponder my younger years pitching a tent on every fishing opener for 15 straight years in the BWCA awaiting opening morning. As I idled past with the “Red Sparkly” I didn’t want to get too close as I’m sure I was one of few boats they saw after getting tied up. “Hey Guys look…A boat!!” LOL! Ya suppose those boys on the flybridge are flat out LOVING LIFE right now. Lets see….inside Voyageurs National Park, Sun is Shining, Group of buddies, and the fishing is flat out on FIRE!! NICE!! I would say after seeing some Houseboats dotted in different parts of Rainy Lake yesterday a Houseboat Excursion for your Group of fisherman would be perfect in the May timeframe for all the hardcore anglers looking for trophy caliber fish!! One of the glaring advantages of a May trip for visitors to Rainy Lake is that May allows anglers to shrink overall magnitude of our fishery. Anglers with some guidance are able to eliminate large spans of unproductive water leaving heaps of quality fish in extremely close proximity to your tie up locations…AND PROTECTED!! This can make a May fishing trip flat out AWESOME!! Lets see…Right now the Smallmouth are pounding baits, Big pike are angry, Big walleyes are trying to be avoided (Until Today!!) and the Crappies are rolling!! Yep that doesn’t sound fun!! Kind of like fishing a smaller lake that has just received a large stocking of trophy fish, and your the only one who knows it!! Psssst…I’m telling you a secret!! Keep it to yourself See you on the water team!! We’ll be the boat with the net out!!
