We were dished out a flat out a MISERABLE day today from “Mo Nature”. Not knowing the word QUIT??…. we pressed on despite 40 degree temps, 20 mph EAST winds and horizontal white rain. Caught some absolute TANK Smallmouth bass!!!These are the true wrist straining variety!! Needless to say worked MICRO slow with the conditions, but how beautiful are Rainy Lakes Smallies!! Congrats to IDO Member Matt Pistorio making the trip, and landing his PB SMALLIE today!! As if I needed to mention…..Take a look at the smile on his face!! (Thats a PB smile No Doubt!!) Great Job Pal!! Our two largest toads tipped the scales at 5lbs even, and graced the benchmark 20 inch class!! Certainly not the biggest brownfish I’ve caught, but won’t see me turn a nose up to those beauties!!

I’m including a picture from Matts trip last year in which he landed his PB 16lb Pike, and his whole crew went home with PB’s!! Lots of great fishing to be had PRIOR to the Minnesota State fishing opener on Rainy Lake Boys!!

    Have to love Rainy Lake!!

About time you spend your time on fish worth your time, fish that never quite fighting, fish that bulldog every chance they get, fish that strain both equipment and wrists.

    Fantastic fish guys

May is a fantastic month to fish up here!! Lots of big fish shallow, and even on brutal weather days like we experienced yesterday anglers are able to take the effects of a big lake out of play. 2500 islands and several back cuts give fisherman the flexability to shield themselves from inclimate weather in smaller boats while not sacrificing the quality of the fishing experience. Now with that being said when this weather finally turns which sounds like will happen on “Opener Saturday” these fish should go Bananas. Even though we’ve been fortunate enough to entice many trophy fish to the new “Fish Casket” we’ve worked good top producing structure in a very methodical fashion. We know fish are inhabiting these areas, and we are working them until we MAKE them bite. For visiting anglers that are taking the search and destroy philosophy often times key structures holding trophy fish are bypassed to quickly. As this water warms back into the 60’s the fish will become much more active seeking to lay claim to feeding shoals while punishing all invaders of personal space. This slight water temperature increase is key ingrediant for the spectacular days of fishing we all lose sleep over. When multiple presentations are being smashed while hanging over the boat, and lures are being inhaled when they hit the water by seemingly ANGRY fish. The kind of days where you forgot to eat your lunch your wife packed, and have a tough time leaving the water at dark. THOSE days with a LITTLE weather stability are just around the corner!!! GET SOME!!

Rainy Lake is a DESTINATION LAKE!! When you get here you’ve arrived having something for nearly everyone. You WON’T fish it all in your lifetime (And I’m Trying!!), and the multiple species of fish to target keep guys like myself who are on the water nearly everyday excited to get back out there!!
