Rainy Lake Does!! My good friend and Fellow guide Ryan and I had a rare day off at the same time today!! Decided we’d join forces to get out to tackle some new Crappie grounds together. Hooked some beautiful Smallies, and accidental Walleyes/Pike before getting on the Big Rainy Lake SLABS!! I utilized a pink and white flu-flu tipped with a minnow under a float. Crappies were located, and with the next little warm up will be on like “DONKEY KONG”!!

Those jet Black Crappies really get my blood pumping!! Having 2 full time fishing guides scrambling for the net while fishing ALONE tells it all!! We were shooting 55-56 degree surface temps which is typically a bit chilly for the slab parade. Look for this weeks rise in temps to get it going big time. Be VERY careful locating these slabs as the minefields that often hold these spawning fish are a bit more evident with our lower water to start the season. As always search with the little motors. We’ve got a big class of slabs to be caught over the next years. (I believe it was the 2002 year class if I’m not mistaken)

Indeed thse Crappies are truly special fish!! Many people have suggested they seemingly look like a completely different strain of papermouths…………But there just BIG!!

Were the jerkbaits used as search tools and the Smallies just couldn’t resist.

Seems like those crappies really like the suspending jerks!!!!
