Congratulations Deb on the Nice Pike!! Good thing that drag was set right!! Caught about 15 pike today on a half day despite “Ma Natures!!” Fury. Biggest fish today went 14lbs spawned out. Keep in mind as cold fronts roll in anglers must be willing to adapt presentations to effectively match the mood of the fish. We’ve experienced a reversal in water temps, so despite the hoopla of how awesome the fishing SHOULD BE…..slow it down. Current weather patterns will often trump all other variables. We softened it up with some big plastics worked in a nearly nuetral bouyancy snap and pause. Rigged these plastics to be nearly weedless allowing us to work it similiar to a Swimbait, but in my opinon with more action. Letting it settle to the bottom like a big dying minnow, and worked up as to take one last gasp. I’ll try snap some pics from tomorrow to show a bit of what we like to use in cold front conditions where fish tend to start nosing hard baits. If your missing lots of fish you can be pretty sure those big pike are just nosing it or bumping it, and not really engulfing the bait like you would prefer. When this happens make the change!!
