Super pumped up, wife just booked our summer weeklong vacation at Sha Sha for the week before the 4th. Have never been out before, starting to do some research.

Anyone know the best paper map I can get my hands on?

Any key baits I need to bring?

Plan on picking up the new Lakemaster chip for my Humminbirds.

Will be spending a lot of time hunting trophy smallies, catching some walleye shorelunches along with some big pike hunting.

Might get a guide for one of the first days just to learn some of the ropes and current patterns.

Gets me even more fired up to get the Skeeter out of storage and put my ice fishing gear away.

    Friggin’ Pumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sha Sha is a great place to stay. I stayed there before it burned down. You will have alot of fishing choices depending on if it is a normal summer or a colder summer. Definitely plan on fishing the farther reaches to the east… through the narrows. It is beautiful, remote and has great walleye fishing.Olsens reef can also be excellent and not as far. The only downside of sha sha is it use to get pretty rockin on the weekends, so if you have young kids it might be an issue, but that was 7-10 years ago. I dont know if that is still true, As for the fishing, also try capstan rock. It is a commmunity fishing area that kicks out many a limits.

    Hi Nic,

You’ll have a great time at Sha-Sha resort. Very nice place with beautiful views of Rainy Lake.

Hot Spots maps along with our Lakemaster chip for your Humminbird will come in handy for your trip. Each summer seemingly is different from the last due to many variables. Last year our water didn’t ever warm up, so fish located much different than the previous year.

Bright colors like orange/Chart. work well in our stained waters.

For Smallies I like to fish big pumpkin seed grubs when on rock piles, but surely there are a hundred other ways guys catch them. Just a personal favorite.

Walleyes are simply chasing baitfish, and since our structure is ENDLESS the fish will be where the baitfish are congregated.

    Chris,

My wife was just watching a DVR of the Houseboat Trip IDO Episode. She says she wants to catch walleye’s “like that”. Do you have an opening that week for a guided walleye 1/2 or full day fishing trip?

    Hey Nic,

I have June 27th and 28th open at this point, and love to take the two of you out. I’ll show you some safe navigational routes for that Skeeter to pal!!

Let me know or send me a PM, and we’ll work out the details. Ink it in Walleye Blood!! We’ll have to hook up a night at Sha-Sha also. Nights on the Sha-Sha decks up here in the summer……..Priceless!!
