Chris, am I going to have to come back up there again this winter? Huge Crappies….Divorce….I have to think on this one, I might be calling soon!
Thanks Guys. They are special fish. They actually were a bit finicky to start, but my buddy hammered out a few holes in a slightly different area where we located some more aggressive fish. I’m not going to lie to ya………I didn’t work it too hard. Personally I’d trade 100 medium sized fish for 4-5 fish of trophy caliber. Honestly these are great fish, but certainly not the biggest that swim some of these haunts. I would not be suprised if we ice a true 18 inch crappie this winter……….AND I don’t mean a 16 inch crappie stretched to 18! I mean a 3lb plus 18 inch fish LEGIT!! Last year I topped out at 16.5 2lbs 9oz, and that is going down this year!!

Please Chris I am begging you… stop chasing those crappies. The only way I could get Pete to return with me for the GTG was I promised him that you would NOT chase our crappies this year

For fish like that, I’ll bring Cash!
Nice fish,Chris!!! I’m going to have to drop everything and make a trip up there one of these days!!! That kind of fish would be worth the drive!!
Thanks everyone!! Make no doubt about it I’m also taken back when landing these big “Donks”. I’d say the spring slip bobber on spawning beds is still likely my favorite “Super Donk” bite utilizing Flu-Flu’s under small floats. Mid to end of May til the first part of June normally. Also get into another great bite in September. Guys were catching slabs on Rainy most of the summer, but I don’t target them unless there grouped up.

Next year I’ll skip LOW and come to Rainy!!
LOTW is also a heck of a fishery. I fish it some, and have did very well. The nice thing about being an independant guide is I fish where the fish are biting, and most of that time it is out my front door. My ice schedule is about 2/3 full for next December/January so far. Better gather the troops!!
