Where to access…..?????

I am looking at a trip with the wheelhouse up here. I heard that the road is plowed to American Narrows. Where do fisherman access to get onto that road? Having never fished the MN side of Rainy in the winter, I have no idea where to access the road. I don’t expect fishing to be like the fishing available to the mobile sled/portable guys, but I am hoping for enough fish to keep it interesting. The wheelhouse/family sure cuts down on the mobility, but it an ultra-high quality time to spend together.

Anything happen for a night bite up there as far as walleyes go??

How are conditions after this latest rain/snow?

    Hi Timmy,

No night bite on Rainy Lake except for the mighty Eel Pout. Those my friend will test your tackle, and great tablefare if you can get your family to clean them for you. There is a road out of Rainy Lake Marine on Sand Bay; There is a road out of Island view resort which will lead you to the American Narrows area, and there is a road just prior to reaching Sha-Sha resort which currently ends at what we refer to Rainy Lake City. The Park had intended to try plow a road around Dryweed Island this year, but significant snow/slush hindered some ice development east. Not sure on their stance on when or whether they still plan on plowing that road. Nothing more comfortable than kicking back in the wheelhouse in your t-shirt with a little Baileys mixed in the cocoa!! Good fishing Timmy!!

On your way to the lake stop by the Rainy Lake One Stop for a lethal Bait/tackle selection. Also have just about everything you forgot to bring prior to hitting the sheet!!

    Thanks buddy.

If I am lucky enough to get a decent pout – no problem cleaning them. I like ’em. The whole backstrap reminds me of a giant walleye cheek.

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully we will be in ~40′ of water Friday night. Baileys is packed and ready to go…….

Not sure where Rainy Lake City is, but I am familiar with american narrows.

    That’s already a foregone conclusion.
