Got the green light from the wife to take her on a romantic fishing week on Rainy Lake. She picked the Sha Sha out of a couple of suggestions from people on IDO for places to go. We are planning a multispecies trip, some smallmouth, some walleyes and some big toothy critters. We have 2 weeks available based on our schedules. When should we go?

    1. Last Week of June
    2. Last Week of August

    Why?

You should run that by Chris Granrud either by PM or the Rainy forum.

    Last week in August because………..

    1) Wife gave you the green light.

    2) it’s a romantic weekend, the weather will be better.

    3) A happy wife equals a happy life.

Since you have a open schedule and you may like BASS fishing try and schedule during the American Bass Championships. Tournament goes out of International Falls and they fish the lake one day and the river the other.

June would be best – Hope for a late spring and you can still cast for all three species.

Once you hit August – it becomes a main lake reef party.

Weather on Rainy can always be iffy.

Rainy Daze will point you in the right direction.

Sha Sha has a fun bar and night, too!!!!

    Hi Nic!!

Either week can be a great time to fish Rainy Lake. Nobody can predict weather patterns next week let alone next summer, but weather tends to be the biggest role player in fish activity over the summer. Last summer had many reefs in mid-summer either void of fish or highly pressured as anglers pounded many of these areas pretty good. I fished very little on reefs all year. I also believe the water temps didn’t warm enough or fast enough to drive these fish to the deeper haunts. With that being said as the “Dog” mentioned often times that August timeframe will have many fisherman targeting reefs for walleyes and pike. End of June can also be a fantastic time to fish, and last year I was still connecting with large pike, walleyes and smallies in shallow water. Thats fun in my book!!

You’ll have a great time at Sha Sha resort. Beautiful views, and a fun night life. My wife and I along with many of our friends like to let the stress of the day float away with a cool Tea off the Sha Sha Decks!!

Last years weather was a mess and made for an intetesting summe across the northern states. Thinking we will do june would love to hit the end of spawning. I’ll get it figured out when we gett back from cancun. Sitting at the milwaukee airport now flight leaves at 7! Should be awesome going flats fishing and hitting some deep sea drop shotting with big balls. Beats sitting on a frozen block of ice again.
