January 19, 2010 at 12:09 am #833481Nice meeting up with you guys up there! We too got clubbed by the monstrous lake. Two days, we caught fish, but it was tough going last week!!
Chris we got to try out the eelpout! You were right, excellent poor man’s lobster!

The bite got a bit tricky, so no hanging your head. If you’d like to tag along in February I’ve got some days off thus far, and have a few ideas. DANGEROUS COMBINATION!! LOL!! Truth of the matter is James and I had a few absolute heartbreakers win the Marco Polo contest prior to hooking up with that spotted Gem. Flesh wounds can heal……..Pain of losing Freak Fish lasts FOREVER!!
I absolutely love tagging big Jacks!! The big fish hand to hand combat gets in your blood…….Actually I think I mixed a bit of blood that day No problem pike cuts heal in 6 months.
Big pike on the ice are probably a close 2nd to big Pike in the spring!! The wave swallowing your presentations in open water is tough to beat my friend!!49 pike over 10lbs last spring sets a high bar for this year. I’ve got the New 2100 Skeeter “Walleye Series” coming this spring that needs a little fish slime to break it in!! Maybe some Shiner scales……. Wanna help??

We just reviewed your Northern Fishing techniques and were pretty impressed!! You probably should brush up on your fish retrieving process. We do have some old gloves that you could have for next time. “Just kidding”!! Very nice fish. We all had to review this clip from our warm living room here in sunny California. I’m not sure we are that anxious to actually be on the ice with you at this time, as we hear it is a little cool there. Curt said that you just called and were finally getting a couple of day’s rest from a long and “cold” fishing stint. We are glad to have Curt & Wendy here with us. Wish you guys could be here too.

He’s gonna need to help me break ice this spring to get after those big pike………Literally!! That was priceless seeing his facial expression last spring. We’ve been ridiculously busy, yet wouldn’t want it any other way. Been tons of fun, and fulfilling a life long dream catching fish for a living. Doesn’t seem fair, but actually there is SOME work involved too!! I’ve got the most beautiful office space in the world. Keep picking oranges from the trees, and tell Robin to say hi To Jay Leno for me!! I’d love to take him fishing!! We’ll keep icing big fish!!

The bite wasn’t fast and furious for us. But we fished hard and did a good job with the chances we did have except for the mongo tip up walleye that got loose right at the hole.
Even on a bad bite, and I truly mean this, Rainy is better than most lakes when they’re “on.” The size potential in that lake continues to amaze me.
January 19, 2010 at 10:57 pm #833971Sounds like a plan Chris! I am always in!! No matter how crazy the idea when it comes to finding fish and exploring new ways to catch em…I will also agree with James that even a bad day on rainy is better than the best on some!!! We did manage to get some walleyes with some size a 25, 23 two 20’s and 3 more over 17 inches…just not alot of numbers of fish last weekend…mabye ive set the bar pretty high for what i think good fishing is, but in the two years ive lived here thats what ive come to expect an average afternoon would be, not two and a half days of fishing…I hope we can hook up and go out sometime, that would be fun! i wont bug you but you know where i work…give me a call or stop by if you want…and it’s on!!!
arklite881southPosts: 5660January 20, 2010 at 12:14 am #833999Rainy will spoil you my friend. We come to expect 25 inch plus fish on an outing. I remember last summer I fished with a group of guys whose combined biggest fish was 22 inches. One had never caught a walleye before. We landed 39 walleyes over 20 inches that day, and the fella who hadn’t ever landed a walleye……….15 himself with a 27 incher as a kicker!!
