Flesh Wounds from 20lb plus pike!!

Filming yesterday with James for an upcoming Ice fishing show here on Rainy Lake has me doing a one hand “Hen Pecking” on this short post. I’ll keep you hanging a bit until pics and videos are available, but there was a battle that took place with a super freak on the ice yesterday. After some heartbreaking big fish were able to shake the hook on us we were do for a break. I’m not going to lie there was a little blood shed in this man vs. beast tug of war, and the fish is doing fine!! I think you’ll enjoy, and likely get a little chuckle. Even guys that spend there life fishing can’t help but get jacked when your eye to eye with the biggest and baddest. Flesh wounds heal, but the pain of losing a big fish lingers on forever. A big thank you to Laura at the Rainy Lake One Stop shop for picking out the lucky Sucker minnow who experienced an unlucky day.

You did the “Granrud” and the Big Pike had his mouth open and decided to latch on?

Oh stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. You only bled for 4 or 5 hours… lol

Great times Mr. Granrud. As always, Rainy Lake continues to absolutely amaze me with the trophy capabilities of that body of water. If that giant walleye hadn’t popped off at the hole we’d have had ourselves quite the 1 – 2 punch for the day.

    See you in february!

Thats what I’m here for Chris. Every morning I give all the bait a pep talk to get them ready for whatever the day holds.
You guys had some great weather fishing yesterday and I
cant’t wait to see the film/photos of this fish that left you with battle scars.

Hey Chris, if you scrape up both hands you’ll have to get a pair of boots you can kick off quickly. Looking forward to this show!

My customer iced a 16lb pike today, and as I kneeled by the 8 inch hole clearing away the slush as he had line screaming through his fingers I will admit I was having flashbacks. He looked me dead in the eyes with fear, and excitement all mixed into one serious look. I asked is it big, and he said YES!! As the fish finally hit the hole I said PULL IT!! I GAVE IT A LITTLE ASSISTANCE!! No blood today!! LOL!! Those big pike are SCARY BIG!!

See you in the AM Laura!! Will need some more Lucky stuff, and a hot cup of java!! What would I do with out you guys!!

“A little blood goes a long ways”.

Right Chris? Pike bites are the worst.

I met a very friendly old timer a few weeks back with an old wives tail to tell me. He was proudly going on about how pike cycle through teeth and most pike are just now getting their teeth back and they are short/dull. I never get tired of hearing that myth but the classic crow feast was when he proudly was showing me his picture of his 40″ pike while holding the camera with his bandaged up hand. “Guess they do have teeth now” he replied.

What do ya say Chris, are the teeth sharp right now?

LOL!! Sharp as Razors Pal!! You know it as well as I!! No matter how cautious you are there comes a time and place you feel the need to make it happen. After losing some monster fish just under the ice……..This fish was coming home!!

Hey Primetime!! Get to the One Stop as they have some killer shiners right now, and DO NOT go without some Sucker minnows.
