When I pulled that fish through the ice I looked right at Jerry sitting comfortably in the otter chair with a LARGE SMILE!! I said Jerry that fish is 30 INCHES!! After carefully measuring it I was wrong, and it went 29 3/4 on the beans. Many people would consider it 30, but it was a hair short. I told Jerry this is a trophy fish, and if you would like to skin mount it we’ll take proper care of it. He insisted it swim, and swim away it did. She was in great shape as she was only out of the water for a brief measurement, and IDO photo shot. Keep this in mind everyone. Fins freeze FAST in cold weather. Keep her inside until your READY for outside pics, and then QUICK. Hold the fish in the hole to thaw any freezing of the fins, and let her pull away from your hand. Assuming your going to release your trophy take all precautions to ensure it is done properly. Although keeping a fish is something that is every customers right to do many anglers opt for replicas or a nice 8×10 photo to showcase their trophy. We carefully take measurements, and pics to ensure a great replica of your Trophy. Starting this year I’m offering signed 8×10 pic of clients trophy fish. One stays with me at the Daze Camp, and the other gets to grace your home/office.

I commend the customers for their respect for the fishery, as well as trophy fish. We are fortunate enough to be on top of some of the biggest and baddest fish in the world on a rather consistent basis. Allowing 30 inch fish to swim allows that fish to continue to grow. I predict we’ll ice a 33 plus as I’m sure they swim these waters, and I feel we’re hot on their whitetips. Keeps us motivated!!

CONGRATULATIONS JERRY!! TROPHY TROPHY FISH!! on a JIG STICK!!!

Lastly keep this in mind when that big fish digs her heels in at the hole. Almost ALL big fish will hit reverse at the hole. This is where 99% of the fish are lost……..AFTER anglers see what they’ve hooked. Be especially carefull NOT to horse the fish. You may very well not break your line, but a pulling out of the mouth is very common. Keep your wits, and ease that fish in position to be clamped by the Daze camp. If we get our hands on her………SHE’S COMING HOME!! Trust me my hands are cut up right now…..Best indicator on how many big fish are being iced!!
