Doesn’t happen as much anymore, but the Fishing Queen and I were able to share the Otter lodge on Christmas afternoon for a few hours. The snow was fierce, and the wind was even more brutal. I could sense Cheryl was wondering what we were doing as we trekked out. I’ve got to hand it to Otter for building such a sturdy Portable shelter. It was rock solid, and I still didn’t have the top 2 braces in!!
We made a big venture, and enjoyed the vastness of this fishery in a SNOWSTORM (Fish Bite in SNOWSTORMS!!). We brought 2 sleds along which is always a good idea especially if Ma Nature is in a angry fury. We drilled a total of 3 holes thanks to the Lakemaster chip/h20C, and our LX-I from Marcum we dropped down on precisely the location I’d been studying the previous night. Action started almost immediately with the Queen showing why she is the queen landing a few nice low 20’s walleyes. Not to be outdone as we both stared down the large pulsating mark shooting up at us I hooked this big girl. She went 27 1/4, but was built like a Vikings lineman. Yesterdays 27 inch + walleye makes that the 10 walleye we’ve iced in our first 14 days on the ice. We brought back 4 perfect eaters for a Christmas freshwater walleye supper. And Snowmobiled over to our friends up the lake, and blasted big game on their Cabelas big game hunter!! Does it get any better!!
Couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas day sharing it with my wife in Voyageurs National Park. Putting the heat to the walleyes!! Oh by the way she was using her PINK fishing rod!! LOL!! But of course I tied her on a Lightning Spoon!!
Had a visit from the Lawyer yesterday too as we were just about to pick up before dark. 11lbs of freshwater cod right there!!
Oh by the way the Rainy Lake One Stop Shop has some awesome bait right now. BEAUTIFUL SHINERS!! Kudos Laura!! My wife LOVED the snowmobile jacket by the way!! Now of course she wants the bibs!!
