30 boys that love fishing amongst 220,000 acres of fish infested waters in the luxury of a Rainy Lake Houseboat can hardly help but produce a box of smiles. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many new people while putting a face to a name. The buzz around the docks, and the chatter on the marine radio’s as we set sail into Voyageurs National Park was priceless. All the anticipation had finally been displaced by the real deal!!

Weather was outstanding, and though the water temps were a bit warm for big walleyes most everyone had some great fishing. Our boat averaged 25-30 eyes over 20 inches each day with our big fish honors going to my good buddy Dave with a hefty 28 inch fish that will grace all of our television screens. We didn’t fish very hard spending a few days fishing 8-4pm…. Bankers hours, but here on Rainy you can get away with it.

A special thanks is indeed in order to Billy, Rainy Lake Houseboats and his entire staff for making our first of many annual events a success. They paid special attention to details, and even headed out early to pinpoint large pods of fish. Can’t think of better service!! CLASS ACT RAINY LAKE HOUSEBOATS!! You’ll surely be hearing from many of us for not only this terrific event next year, but from those of us who would also like our families to experience the great outdoors in the comfort of one of your awesome houseboats.

It is so nice that in the hustle and bustle of todays world a group of anglers can get together outside the reaches of cell phones and traffic. The only noise heard was generators being kicked on in tandem as boys started making a fresh pot of Joe, or the loons greeting us each morning.

Lastly thanks to James for being the Kingpin for this event. Although the nature of the beast is results oriented, and clickers are commonplace in many boats these days. Thanks for your efforts in putting together a FUN event for all to enjoy. I know of few places where a guy can come back from a days fishing catching 15 walleyes over 20 inches and consider it a SLOW BITE??? LOL!! Rainy Lake has raised the bar for many anglers, and In Depth Outdoors has set the standard for both a interactive fishing website and television show.

Great time!! We’re in next year 100% Also might be interested in a second boat considering how tough it was for some to get in this trip.

I know it is early, but as soon as we can reserve locations for next year we’ll lock up our boat or 2???
