RD: Do you have a plan yet for a contest between the gtg boats yet? You may have taught some of us on guide trips how to get it done. I have not heard any trash talk on who is putting the first 30+ walter in the boat yet.
I think it would be fun to have a digital contest. A contest between friends with conservation of the fish in mind. A close up digital picture of the fish on the ruler would do the trick. Everyone needs to remember we have a protective slot between 17-28 inches. Those fish must be immediately returned to the water. Fish under 17 inches can be harvested along with 1 fish over 28 inches as a trophy should one want to skin mount a fish. I was thinking it would be kind of neat to have everyones name or boat name on a board and post their big fish in inches along side their name. Our boat name will be the Rainydaze Fish Casket (We’ll be the boat with the Beckman out) . Nothing too complicated.
I’ll be guiding the days leading up to our launch, so in the pre-launch seminar I’ll update you on what patterns we’ve been fishing. Hopefully just enough information for you guys to finish in a solid 2nd place What you do with that information is up to you. Right now I’d say don’t come without a great selection of H20 Precision jigs in a variety of colors and weights. Call me boring…..But the patterns I often focus on mid-summer until ice up call for a premium jig with a plastics keeper for quick change ups between meat and plastics. H20 Precision jigs are hands down the best jig being produced!! I also am a BIG BIG fan of the K-Grubs!! I usually start snapping them through big schools of fish the beginning of September, but put some nice fish in the boat with them just the other day. Keep in mind the biggest and baddest fish are fattening up eating ciscoes and smelt. White jig heads with pearl colored bodies turn big fish for my boat. I love the natural colors that best imitate baitfish being preyed upon during that season. For example early season you will see us pitching paddletails in perch color combo’s or small walleye.
What I look forward to is finding all the different things that work for the great sticks that will be in attendace on this outing. I also hope to learn some new tricks or colors that work. Don’t be afraid to experiment on spots or presentations.
I’m very excited that we have such a great representation of Idofishing anglers to meet Billy and Tommy at Rainy Lake Houseboats!! They run a class outfit over there!! BTW there is no other trip that gals enjoy then the luxury of a houseboat. Tenting……RUKIDDING!! Get the gals in the houseboat, and you get another awesome fishing trip!! I am planning this fall trip to be an annual trip for our group hopefully for years to come!! I’ll admit I have a couple gals here that are pretty jealous Looks like we’ll be trying to set up a trip to include the whole family next year too!!
