Fishing Rainy Lake this weekend. Friday it was rainy, windy and cold. High of 60 in the AM but dropped to the low 40’s by Saturday AM.

Woke up to a NW Wind of 35 MPH sustained!!!! Wow does this lake roll when she blows out of the NW. 4+ footers on the main lake.

Fishing today was getting much better. Water temps have dropped back to the low 50’s on the main lake but we found some high 50’s in the rivers and back bays. Pike are starting to get going again, after the big cold front. Biggest was a 44 inch fish that must have weighed 20+ lbs. Took a 8 inch Sluggo in the decaying reeds. Several other fish in the 10- 15 lb range.

Lots on 20-24 inch walleyes on jigs. They seem to be deeper this year. Smallies are mixed in with them in the 15-20 foot breaks.

Big smallies on mepps #4 spinner with black and yellow fox hair trebles. Very interesting how these are working this year. It is all about the placement of the cast and the retrieve. A guy from Maine tipped me off this year. I forget how good these things work. 8 fish over 4 lbs today!!!!

The jerk bait bite is not happening.

Fished East of the T-bird and boated around 30 eyes. Biggest went 24″. Found all our fish in less then 12ft. Struggled to locate any deeper. Finding a soft bottom and gradual windswept breaks was the ticket. No luck on slabs… WINDY.. Overall a awesome exp. The most gorgeous walleyes I’ve ever seen. Seemed like there are 3 different variations of color. to the Rainy Gods…
