Has anyone been out chasing those giant slabs yet?

    Scott,

I was wondering the same thing!
I have never fish winter crappies on Rainy. If they run anywhere near the size we caught in May and June….that would be a blast!!
I would love to take a trip exclusively for crappies on Rainy…Big crappies+scenery=

Steve, I know a few guys that go up to Rainy just to fish those Giany Slabs. Some of the biggest fish are pulled through the ice. I have been wanting to get up there for years, maybe this is the year.

I am headed up to Rainy this weekend to fish for slabs – little early in the season from what I’ve heard but I hate to waste open water time. I’ll let you guys know how we did.

Back from Rainy – gotta love fishing in that weather. Didn’t get above zero until Saturday afternoon. Sadly no slabs – could only get little dinks to bite. The weather kept us from hitting the better spots. Finally gave up and chased big pike instead which worked out nicely.
