    Hey Team,

I’ll be working up a “In Depth” report later on today, but a general overview have fish coming out of a few weather induced “Bad Scale Days”. Fish are becoming much more active again, and a good mix of Walleyes, Saugers, Perch, Pike and Pout are coming up for Hot oil baths!! March marks some of my favorite memories on the ice, and I’m looking forward to dropping the hammer on these eyes!! Get up here boys!! March fishing can be LIGHTS OUT!! Chasing Eyes and Pike in Sweatshirts is tough to beat!! Also remember when Walleyes close everywhere else we’re still open up here with our extended season!! DON’T MISS IT!! It’s gonna be AWESOME!!

Big Thanks to all the Daze Customers this week!! We sure enjoy meeting and fishing with you!! We will be out in force this next week keeping tabs on movements with Guests!! Some of which are fellow IDO BOYS!!
We have several openings in March!!

What I really want to know… How many ‘pout can Chris clean before he screams UNCLE?!

Thanks for the report, Chris. It is good to see you’re going to make it through another I’ Falls winter and are having a heck of a lot of fun in the process.

Pretty good. A lot like the consistency of lobster. (Often called the poor mans lobster) Filet off the backstraps and chumk them into tater-tot size pieces. Boil in salt water for 3-4 minutes, dredge in melted butter, a little salt or a dash of old bay. Not a bad snak at all!

I’ve always heard about the backstraps, but I read the other day something that said to fillet them just like you would a walleye and boil or even batter fry them. Best idea I’ve heard is to boil them in 7-Up before the salt/butter. In any case, I suppose the point is that they’re decent eating.

I wrote an article on Eel Pout, Burbout, Lawyers, Ling Cod… for the Outdoor News a few weeks back. Not sure if it is out yet. Burbout are great eating. Much better eating than cleaning. Best way to clean these bad boys is to have a board with a couple nails sticking out and stick the pout head on those nails. Make an incision behind the head and up above/around the stomache. Get a couple good pair of pliers and simply pull the skin away like on a bull head. Then you fillet out the backstraps and down the tail. Chunk meat up into bite size pieces and they are ready to roll. Millions of recipes for these tastey swimming treats, and most are pretty good. I like to boil in salt water and then in 7-up. light squeeze of lemon over meat and dip in drawn butter!! Personally I try save the 4-7lb fish for this as the smaller ones have lots of cleaning, and not much meat!! LOL!! Yep we’ve been all over the big pout with minimal effort!!

Dan was fun to fish with. Though they simply rented my sleeper I fished with them both days as I didn’t have any other guide trips this weekend. We had a lot of fun yesterday movin-n-groovin. We had both augers fired up, and hole hopped quite a bit. This definately was key to find some active fish. Nothing more fun than to drop the ducer down to a red mark and have that fish meet you with an open mouth!! Seems you can pick a fish or two out of hole, and then better move on to other holes. My favorite was when Dan had a big fish hit him on the drop, and got caught out of position. Then he dropped it back down and hand jigged it only to hook it and get busted off!! Good Times!!
