Hardwater Dreaming

Well I’m officially in Hardwater mode!! Getting the sleds, permanent shacks, portables, vexilars, ice rods, tip-ups, heaters, tackle… All ready to roll for another great year of ice fishing the Mighty Rainy Lake. One of the fun things about fishing late into the fall is being able to predict early ice locations for those giant walleyes. I’ve been receiving many questions on first ice predictions for reservations, and that is a bit tough to predict. I’m not a “FIRST ICE” promoter really. I’m a first “SAFE ICE” promoter. It could be as early as the end of November or it could be Mid December. My Big “Daze Inn” won’t be on the ice until January likely unless we have a quicker freeze up. Many things can play a big role in our ice conditions, but the major one is having cold without a big blanket of snow during the early forming stages. That snow can be a huge insulating factor, and can really hinder ice formation. Regardless we expect a fantastic year of Ice Fishing Expeditions here on Rainy Lake. Whether you like the comforts of a cushy Permanent house like the “Daze Inn” or prefer running and gunning on sleds an portables we look forward to fishing with you this winter!! FYI Early in the year Giant Pike are often mixed right in with the walleyes!! Reservation dates can be adjusted to future open dates if need be due to ice formation.

As always bring your digital cameras!!
