Yesterday I received a phone call from a group of guys looking to do some fishing for a couple days on the mighty Rainy Lake. They mentioned that they are really interested in there best chance to get on BIG FISH, and were looking to book based on my recommendations. I thought I would pass along this response to everyone as it is a pretty commmon question. This is my experience on BIG Walleyes. I don’t mean 20-24 inch fish, but rather 25+. I would personally choose September through November during the open water season. There is no doubt that we catch them throughout the summer, but for optimum chances of congregated BIG FISH that is when I would get up here. In my opinion there is no better time to be fishing up here than September and October. Last year on multiple trips we were pounding the big walleyes while limiting out on eaters and slab crappies. Oh…. And there are fewer anglers on the lake! Sooooo….. If your looking for some awesome walleye action…. Best start rearranging your work schedule!
