Don’t write off walleyes on hot calm days. Work the same structure you’ve been finding active fish off nearby deeper structure. Those fish will often times back off the rock piles or reefs during the heat of summer only to come back to feed on the shoals in low light conditions. Today my group from Mankato, and I boated 35 walleyes in the blistering sun with zero wind. Biggest fish was a fat 25 incher. We caught most of our fish in 35 f.o.w. H20 Precision jigs in the 1/8 oz size were hot. Orange and Chartruesse is a personal staple.
If you don’t already own a Bait Tamer get yourself one. They will pay for themselves over and over and over. Sink them to the bottom of the lake, and keep your bait lively. A day like today will leave you with a bucket of dead stinky bait in regular minnow buckets. I keep them off my dock with my stockpile of minnow assortment. Great things for guys coming up on houseboats or just a week at the resort. They also keep our otters out!!!
Thanks for the great time fishing Joe and Andy!!! I guess Mankato boys can catch fish!!! LOL! I’ll be sure to hit the Buffalo Wild Wings next time in your area!!
