So we’re obviously having a late ice out this year. Everything Spawn related is backed up. Good news is our water levels are looking good. Anyone fishing the mighty Rainy knows this is a big deal. Record highs to record lows year in and year out as of late considering water levels. I guess this can be directly attributed to our volatile weather patterns as of late. Floating docks are a good gig here on Rainy. Walleyes are obviously spawning later than what we would consider normal. Remember here on these big border lakes much of the walleye spawning will take place with a sheet of ice on the main lake yet. With a later than normal spawn it will likely mean your smaller males will be very aggressive up shallow, so don’t think it is going to be poor fishing because of the late conditions. Few larger females are caught on the opener time frame typically anyway. The other thing to consider is that the Big Pike have been delayed in there movements also, so you just may find those gators up shallow and very aggressive. They haven’t made there move in “Yet”, and we’re patiently waiting there arrival.
Good Fishing!
