I am taking my cousin up to Rainy in mid sept. We are going to camp on/near Dryweed Island. We will fish for Walleyes, but I also want to spend some time chasing big pike. How is the fishing in that region, particularly for pike? Any help appreciated. I am fired up to go already.

Rainy produces lots of pike in the 30-40″ class and quite a few 40″ plus pike and they’re usually close to the walleyes. In fact if you get on a walleye bite the action will usually attract some big gators.

I sent you a pm about me stupidly leaving my muskie gear behind a bush on Rainy Lake.

Fall fishing on Rainy has begun in earnest – lots of 20-28″ “football” walleyes, nice crappies are showing up on several reefs, and big pike are putting on the fall feed bag too. I’ve recorded 2 pike well over 20 lbs. the last 2 days.
