The governor’s opener went very well here on Rainy Lake over the weekend. Gov Ventura caught 5 walleyes thanks to a job well done by his guide, Billy Dougherty. They made the run all the way to Kettle falls and ended up boating 17 walleyes.

Most fish are coming out of deep water (25-35 feet). Deeper reefs just outside of the bays seem to be producing well. Come on up to IFalls and beautiful Rainy Lake. For information on where to stay call the Int’l Falls and Rainy Lake Convention and Visitors bureau at 1-800-FallsMN or http://www.rainylake.org

    Hey ya’ Steve!~

Welcome aboard. I’m sure all the visitors to the site will appreciate all the Rainy Lake info headed their way in the near future now that you’ve started working with us here at EFN.

One question…. when’s the best time to come for top water smallie action? Over the last couple years I’ve followed the weights brought in for a couple of the premiere bass tourneys that hit your area and the weights are unbelieveable! Each year the bags get heavier and heavier…..!

Thanks for any info you might be willing to share.

    James,

Rest assured, I will let you know when the conditions are right for the topwater smallie bite. Rainy Lake is a premier smallie fishery and a must stop for any serious angler. There are lots of three pound plus smallies in this beautiful pine-studded, rocky border lake.

Sean Colter and I fish the Canadian Bass Championship and yes, the weights are phenominal everyday for the three day tournament.

If you want to experience this first hand, let me know, you will be welcomed aboard my boat anyday. The topwater bite usually starts in late June and continues throughout the summer. See ya up here. Oh, and don’t forget your Skitterpops and your camera!!!!
