Well the ice as been off Rainy for a week now, and the shallow water bite is heating up! The walleyes started off slow, but steady the first few days after the ice finally went off, and has been getting better every day. The bays are heating up quickly with the nice weather we’ve had. Crappie bite has been on fire the last couple of days! Bass are starting to move up also, and we’ve been catching a few more each day while fishing for eyes. Lots of big pike to be had in the bays also. We haven’t targeted them yet, but have caught a couple dandys fishing walleyes, and have seen quite a few really nice ones milling around on the calm days. If your pondering a trip to Rainy Lake don’t hesitate and get up here as soon as you can! The shallow water bonanza should be crazy good the next few weeks! If your looking for a guided trip give us a call. Good Luck to every one fishing Rainy Lake!

Awesome post and fish. Are you able to shed any light on what’s working for those walleye & crappies? Lure & depth?

Tyler for walleyes we’ve been fishing bays and rivers. In the bays we’ve been pitching jigs usually eighth ounce toward wind blown points, submerged rocks, and wind blown shorelines. Long lining and dragging a jig behind the boat has also worked well on the calmer days. Key is to move slow, and let quite a bit of line out to get it away from the boat. In the rivers best bite has been right on the edge of the current, or the slack water. BFishNTackle pulsRpaddle tails, and trigger x paddle tails have been awesome! Jig with a minnow has been deadly as well.
Slabs have been in the pencil reeds, and submerged rock piles near spawning areas. Slip bobbers in 2 to 4ft with a 16th ounce jig tipped with a minnow has been the best for us.
