Heading up Saturday the 14 for a week of fishing. A couple of questions. Is the Kettle Falls Hotel still open for lunch? Is the river worth fishing this time of year? Are the eyes still on the reefs? And last have the Crappies move into the bays and creeks. Thanks for any info you care to give.
I will report when I get back.

I was there last weekend and the walleye where still in there summer patterns. As for the crappie I have no clue. I usually don’t start crappie fishing until ice

Wayne – Sounds like you’re staying near Kettle? We find Crappies in Black Bay this time of year, and if not back there yet, out on Crappie cribs to the west of Dryweed.

Sinister – you were fishing east of the Brule and has success last weekend? Did you try any spots around Kempton Channel? I hope to find fish west of the Brule, but have a feeling we may have to muscle up for the long haul east.

Thanks for the reply. Staying at Thunderbird. Fished the Kettle with the guys in early May. Want to take the wife to the hotel for lunch, she has never been there. Not a bad ride if low wind and under two footers. Have 1850 Super Hawk with 150 so only about a hour from cabin. Plan on checking Rat Root for Crappies, heard that could be good in fall. Only third time on lake and first time in September. Still learning the lake. Love the area and great shore lunch spots. My buddy and I are bringing the wife’s so long rides in bad weather won’t happen. The Rat Root is a good option when the wind blows.

ya we fished all along that shorelinethat first day. I’ve had great luck on the west side of brule but that’s usually from opener through end of June. From June on I’m on the east side until fall. I plan on making one more trip in late October but then them be in the fall pattern to bulk up.

Up on Rainy now, fishing is slow. Today much more wind then predicted. Others at dock are also not doing well, very cool in morning. Going out later today to try the evening bite. Now I know why Walleye filets are so expensive .

Wayne, look to the windward shore, ~points extending furthest/deepest are most productive right now. Turn up the sensitivity and use zoom if necessary. Reefs tough. (West of the Brule for those though.) Try the deep vertical jig/minnow bite around Fox tight to the Canadian border.
    Good luck

Thanks, I will try that. Weather looks like it could make things tough next two days.

Spotfish I’ve looked over the map and don’t see any island or reference to Fox. Can you give me a better idea where that is located? We tried a 30 ‘ point near Review islands end of day yesterday mostly 8″ eyes. Should we go deeper? Did mark fish in 40’ but saw other boats at edge in 30 so that is where we tried. We also plan on lead core trolling if its raining hard.

Update, found where is was. Went and caught three limits this morning, all were on the short side but eaters. Shore lunch tomorrow.

    Thanks for your advice.

Fox Islands are just to the west of the entry into Brule Narrows. West side of Brule. Big set of islands right on Canadian Border. Lots of Structure.

I just got back from 4 days on Rainy and we battled and found/caught fish in 25-30 feet of water around Dryweed, Big American and Reefs off Little Grindstone. Lots of 14-16 and several over 22. Friday was absolute hell on the water.

Interestingly during a lull in bites I switched to crawlers on a light jig, and started pounding them again. All of our big fish were caught on large shiners.
