Your first steps

Looking back at last years calendar; December 3rd of 2011 marked my personal first outing for Rainy Lake Walleyes. I was greeted with this bruiser as the sun dropped behind the pines. I believe as I gently slid my fingers under her gils I muttered “Bet your not happy to see me here….ALL DAY LONG BABY!!” Though the thoughts of watching the big marks burn in and out of my new Marcum excites me, I want to remind crazed “Ice Heads” like myself to use extreme caution. Please remember those “First Steps” need to be done smartly. Bring your charged Marcum and a couple jig sticks…….MOST IMPORTANT…..Please don’t forget your brain on shore. Big fish tend to clog an otherwise clear sense of reasoning.

A good spud bar poking in front of you on each step both on and off the ice with a pair of ice picks around your neck is golden!! Being the first man on the ice isn’t as impressive if your not able to be the last man!

The look in that fish eyes seems like he is thinking “UH oh I heard of you. Are’nt you a little early?”

On the contrary I think she’s thinking “Where ya been pal?…We’ve been looking for more free minnow heads from Andy.”
