August 17th marks the birthday of my good friend whom we lost last November. I’ve struggled for months thinking of a fitting tribute to both Reid and his wonderful family. Reid was my best friend in high school and I can’t begin to put into words the times and memories we’ve had together or the hurt in losing him. As a writer not being able to communicate thoughts and feelings is seemingly odd in nature. Still Losing a friend is losing a part of you that too many of us find great clarity within the statement. As a promoter within the fishing industry I honestly have had grand plans of a fishing day dedicated to old friends or something far greater and complex. In the coming years I expect I’ll find a fitting tribute on a greater scale for my old fishing buddy.
For the time being I’ve decided on August 17th I’ll simply fish alone. It will be blocked off a busy guide schedule. The day won’t be spent on the lake with paying customers. For on August 17th I’ll seemingly be fishing alone, but hope to have an old friend join me in spirit as I soak in a day of fishing in it’s most simplistic nature.
This one’s all for you my friend!! I’ll get the net for ya “Speedy”.
