Driving your boat in a hail storm

Peering over the windshield trying to navigate in an all out hail storm is a bit dicey. Even a grizzled fishing guide might wince while getting drilled in the face by ice pellets driven at 50 mph. OUCH!!

I wouldn’t have been surpised if the animals would have started to pair up on the shorelines as “Mother Nature” digs her claws in directly over Rainy lake.

I got caught out on Pool 2 a couple of weeks ago when it started to hail. I’m glad there weren’t any women or kids within 400 yards of me because my language would have scared them for life. It hurt!

Chris, ice pellets separates the men from the boys. The golf ball sized hail separates the sane from insane men. About 10 years ago when I was young AND stupid, I had my viser/shield busted off of my helmet from a hail storm running across W/Bago. Lucky to only had a bruised ego

My first on the water hailstorm was in Canada, about 20 years ago. We were lucky enough to make it to an island, where we stood under some pines and watched our boat disappear in white! We were only 30 feet from the boat and couldn’t see it! The storm moved through quickly, leaving us with about a foot of hailstones in the back end of the boat. We had snow flurries in the morning, fished shirtless around lunch time, and were lazying away the day when it got dark real fast. Just before and just after the hail hit, the wind stopped completely and the temperature went up very quickly. Where was Sven Sundgaard when we had the weather show of the century? I feel the misery in your picture.

Been out in hail once- not fun. Chris my bro-in-law has a saying when we’re out and everyone thinks we are nuts. He always says “You don’t have to be crazy to be out in this weather, but it helps.”

Chris we were up north of Fort Francis fishing the FFCBC and never got wet but saw that storm go south of us and we were hopeing that it was gone before we had to come in for weighin,we couldn’t see the causway or power lines for awhile and knew it was bad.what an amazing fishery we caught a bunch of trash fish 24″to28″ walleyes then lost a4#bass sat to miss a check. my 8 yr old grandson caught a 10#+ northern when we were practice fishing.here’s a couple of pictures.the jumping bass was taken buy 1 of Josh’s freinds who road with 1 day. a bass spit out the crawfish in the boat.

Thanks for sharing and great timing on that bass pic. Sorry about that 4lb fish lost to keep you out of the money. Next year you’ll land her. Yeah that was some yucky weather!!

Congrats to the grandson on the nice Pike!!

BTW I’m catching all sorts of the true “Rough Fish” fishing for Walleyes.
