Such fun fishing with father and son duo Mark and Andrew Broman. As I picked the team up from Thunderbird resort I mentioned at breakfast that we’re currently contending with the final stages of a Mayfly hatch. Though we’ve been catching 30-40 Walleyes a day….. we’ve been working for them and presentations/locations needed to be precise.
The two boys were up for the challenge and gladly saddled up a seat in “Sho-Time” as we looked to pin down the big girls. Good…..Better and Best is a simple analysis of the overall results!! Along with an easy 9:30 am limit of 14-16.75 inch eaters we landed around 75 Walleyes in our 8 hour trip. We also landed a 26, 26.5 and 28 inch Walleye. 25-30 other Walleyes exceeding 20 inches.
We focused our efforts on 3 prominent food funnels that had really congregated the larger Walleyes under masses of flies in recent days. Those Mayflies had began to reduce in numbers, but the Walleyes remained stacked up. This my friends is what we’re looking for!! A reduction in available food and the mass of game fish still looking to feed!! The H20 Precision jig in the 3/16 oz. size with either a crawler or fathead simply dominated the Walleyes!!
Awesome job boys!!
Here’s your Captain “Daze” with the smallest of the 3 big girls taping 26 inches on the beans.
