Keeping an “Eye” on the prize

You cannot catch fish that aren’t there. As we’ve discussed before when there is an influx of food such as the current mayfly hatch there are two different philosophies; Some anglers will choose to try comletely avoid the hatch by fishing a different portion of the lake where the hatch is minimal. Still others choose to seek the flies and catch Walleyes under a “Mayfly Sky”. I’d suggest both as being a viable option, but when the hatch is lakewide……I know what we’ll be doing. Finding the massive funnel of flies and fishing right in the newfound food source. Once again this philosophy was rock solid on yesterday’s half day trip with many fish pushing into the low to mid-20’s. Eaters were also mixed right in with the slot fish.

    Chris,
Do you see any advantage during the Mayfly hatch fishing the night time/low light period verses daytime fishing? if so, would you use the same presentation?

Our normal trips are 8-4…….Nearly Bankers hours. With that being said we’re fishing high skies. I would presume a light dimming would only enhance the bite.
