First off it felt quite uncomfortable. Skeeter is my home…..It’s my “Comfort Zone”. Bless the Triton and Bless Bassboats….
Here is ” THE REST OF THE STORY”
My Texas customers Jake, Jerry and Amy were fishing with me the otherday. Jerry (Jake’s Dad) elected to take his boat on our follow boat program.
We had already landed a 39.5 and 40.5 inch Pike when it happened. As a fishing guide first and foremost SAFETY of customers comes to mind. Second…..LAND BIG FISH!! I notice Jerry laces up a fish and I told Jake and Amy who were in my boat “Looks like your dad has a good one”
I kept a close eye on him for a few seconds before intructing our team to quickly REEL IN!! We need to get our “Big Kahuna” over to Jerry as the “Butterfly” net in his boat is going to be overmatched. As I burned the Terrova 101 across the water to Jerry I asked Jake if he would jump in Jerry’s boat and I’d throw him the net. That way Jake could help his dad land the fish which certainly is NOT a one man job and I feared a disaster with the smaller net. Again…..Lacing up a big one is GOOD, LANDING a big one is GREAT!!
Upon arriving Jerry’s boat Jake jumped in and I handed over the Traveling Frabill “Big Kahuna”. Nope….You don’t need one as long as were fishing close by.
They eventually land the BEAST!! 43 inches and THICK!! The two boys are pretty amped up as I watch Jake immediately going into the net. Absolutely no dis-respect, but anyone who has handled there share of big pike or Muskie realizes this can be a bit……DICEY. Losing a digit is a possibility. Amy and I now were in close quarters and I instructed Jake to just leave the pike in the net for a second while I thought this out.
I said I’m coming over and an going to bring my boat away from yours and place the Ipilot on Spot lock or the Anchor feature. I can then unhook the beast and help you get a measurement/pictures while miminmizing the blood shed.
Technology took over. While I’m…YES in the Triton…….. Amy is alone in “Sho-Time” continuing to fish while I’ve placed the Skeeter away from us on “Spot Lock”. Hey days are short and the fish are SNAPPING!!
The fish was carefully unhooked and we were able to grab a few pics of the trophy before releasing her.
Amy later told us that as she was alone in “Sho-Time” she had a strike…..DEAR LORD this could have become even more complicated as I remote control Amy towards us with her big fish!!
After it was all over “Sho-Time” reluctantly accepted me back behind the controls…..Though I’ll admit she does quite well on her own.
Just another day in the office.
Pictured here is a shot that Amy took of the Guide to Customer CONGRATULATIONS……..After the release.
