2012 Open Season Goals?

Fishing is many different things to different people. As a fishing guide I am afforded the chance to fish with hardcore anglers and guys that simply like to soak the day away within the confines of Voyageurs National Park.

I’m interested in what really trips your trigger. What is it that draws you to the sport? Is it the challenge of topping a personal Best? The love of that Walleye thumping your jig? Possibly the smash of an angry Smallmouth defending her nest.

For me I’d say at this point in my career it is the challenge of keeping customers on good fish. Trying to figure out the relationships between weather and fish movement.

Still I also find the wave slapping against the side of my boat very calming; As if the water is truly a second home for me.

Let’s here why IDO anglers are eager for the 2012 season to FIRE UP!!

Pictured here is the Chief Editor in Staff of Rainydaze Guide Service aka “Fishing Queen” with her first 20lb pike caught last May!!! To say she was excited was the understatement of our 2011 season!! Smiles from our fellow anglers remain priceless.

Break 20lbs in a Bass tournament this year. Catch another bass over 7lb.

    And of course, HAVE FUN!

Catching fish is just about the last reason I go fishing. (Unless of course I’ve paid for some famous guide on a Walleye factory. Then I expect BIG results ) For me it’s getting away from phones, people, the hustle bustle of everyday life. My favorite method is just trolling shoreline, soaking in the beauty of the water and what nature has to offer. Catching fish is just the icing on the cake. In addition, I enjoy fishing for BIG FISH as I don’t keep any fish unless they are deep hooked anyway.

My favorite TV show is “Alone in the wilderness” which should give you a idea of my mindset.

Set the boat up for the drift I want, toss something over the side with some kind of bait on the hook, lean back put my feet up and watch the world go by. An occasional eagle or osprey either roosting or soaring, maybe an otter or even a beaver along the shore. That to me is the optimum in fishing trips. An occasional nibble or hit makes a good day even better. I’ve even been known to doze off once in a while.- – -jerr

My main goal this summer is to spend more time away from work with my children in the boat with me. I have had some of the best conversations with my kids trolling with crawler harnesses, eating snacks, and drinking juice boxes.

To have more fun memories like this Would like to get my daughter in the boat with us more this summer . Explore new to me areas of Rainy Lake. To keep on learning P4 and become more versatile in our technique on the river.

That brings back fond memories of my father, who once took a napp while drifting in his boat, live bait rig in the water. A nice lady found him aground on the opposite shore, waves slapping the side of the boat, her and the Sherrif were quite relieved when they found out he was just sleeping.
