On May 30th a crew of hardcore fisherman will depart from the home base of Rainy Lake Houseboats. Focus of the trip will be the elite caliber fish often found on the chew in shallow waters this time of year. There is little doubt this early season fishing is some of Rainy lake’s finest. Anglers that enjoy working shallow water bays and shoreline structure are going to flat out love this fishing. Big Pike, Walleyes and Smallies are often found in very close proximity.

Last year this trip was simply a huge success with boys destroying the fish. Heck I remember taking 30 minutes trying to scroll through all of Holst’s big fish pics!! If you haven’t signed up yet, it is my understanding that we still have openings for a full boat or single fisherman. This deal if very hard to compete with since we are doing this as a group.

Don’t miss this chance at a stellar deal to put the heat to the Rainy Lake fish in the luxury lodging of a Rainy Lake Houseboat. I assure you that trip alone up the lake is priceless!!

Again like in years past the night before your departure I’ll be giving a pre-launch seminar in which I will catch the group up on presentations currently crushing those big fish. I look forward to meeting many of the new faces and of course guys from previous outings once again!! Throughout the trip the crew is very good about sharing information and known for telling a few………BIG FISH STORIES!!

If your looking for a PB Pike, Walleye or Smallie…….Your search is over my friends!! Just remember to bring your favorite grilling meats as that aroma of steaks burning on the grill from the front of your floating condo has me daydreaming of the Houseboat lifestyle this am!!

Aaaah open water fishing on Rainy Lake……..I’m READY!! Slide on in boys….We’ve still got room!!

    2012 Spring Houseboat Trip

Just was talking with Billy last night as I ran into him at Thunderbird Lodge. We talked shallow water fishing for about an hour!! I think my daughter had enough “FISH TALK” LOL!!

I was thinking some of that conversation might be interesting for some of the Excursion boys or guys looking to sign up. I’ve loaded up the “On Ice” camera gear to briefly discuss the thoughts of 2 fishing guides when the ice leaves early.

BTW both of us smiled when we talked about that first week of June timeframe with water with our early ice out. I am thinking we are on the same wave length here…….GONNA BE REALLY GOOD!!

Hope to have the editing department of the Daze household working hard to get this piece in front of the Rainy lake finatics!!! (Dear Fishing Queen……)

I was just scrolling through last years pics over end of May first part of June timeframe………BTW this 25.4lb/46.5 inch Pike might make somebody happy!! She still haunts these waters!!

I’d suggest bringing the BIG net!! I’m going to the Frabill site right now to look at the big hoop nets. My walleye net was DESTROYED by big pike like this. Last year we LANDED 64 pike exceeding 10lbs!! Around 45 were in the May/June timeframe!!

That will be an interesting video. I look forward to getting that online here for all to see.

Did somebody say Smallies on Beds?? HELLO!! Though Rainy Lake receives a lot of press when it comes to Monster Pike, Beautiful Walleyes and Ri-Donk-Ulous Crappies it is fair to say our Smallmouth fishing is second to NONE!!

Smallies on topwater just makes me giggle in excitement!!

I have an angler (boater) looking for a couple guys (non-boaters) to fish with on this year’s Rainy Houseboat trip.

Here’s some background info on Bob:

I’m a 62 year old IT Professional, from Plymouth, MN. I’m friendly, easy to get along with, and have a good sense of humor. I’m an avid walleye fisherman, but I have lots to learn about shallow water patterns, especially casting plastics. I have quite a bit of houseboat experience over the last 15 years, including Lake of the Woods, Kabetogama, Namakan, and Rainy. I know how to find my way around on Rainy, and I have both the Navionics and Lake Master contour maps for Rainy on a handheld GPS.

My boat is a Lund Pro Sport 1700 (with a windshield), year 2000. It has a 115 HP 2 stroke Johnson, 4 stroke Yamaha T-8 kicker, 55 lb bow mount, and a marine radio. All systems are in good shape. I will actually be at Rainy over the Memorial Day weekend, so I’ll just stay there an extra night before the IDO trip. That means I won’t be able to travel back and forth with my partners. However, it also means they don’t have to tow and launch a boat, so they can come up in a small car if they want.

If anyone would like to be put in touch with Bob to talk about attending the 2012 Rainy Lake Houseboat trip, send me an email or a Private Message and I’ll share contact info.
