Dear Winter,
Surely I may be found guilty of cursing your cold breath on January mornings, and possibly even seeming slightly annoyed while shoveling your gracious “White gifts” you’ve given to our adventurous driveway. Still from the very inner soul of ice fisherman across the state; We have unfinished business to tend to you see. As the white blanket is pulled back from our fisheries the increased sunshine followed by an influx of oxygentated water filter through the aging ice sheets. This process triggers larvea activity in many mud basins. This event is an invitation to the highly anticipated late ice “Bug dance”. The “Bug Dance” attracts other visitors to mud basins like the highly sought after “Borderland” Crappies!!
Many fellow “Ice Heads” like myself look forward to this all year long. Please don’t skip the sweatshirt Crappie fishing weather as we truly have unfinished business to tend to.
It is apparent we won’t be cheated in the open water arena, so if you can hear me through your winter ear muffs; Please……. I beg of you to allow us a couple weeks to finish scratching our late ice itch.
That is all.
