    Dear Winter,

Surely I may be found guilty of cursing your cold breath on January mornings, and possibly even seeming slightly annoyed while shoveling your gracious “White gifts” you’ve given to our adventurous driveway. Still from the very inner soul of ice fisherman across the state; We have unfinished business to tend to you see. As the white blanket is pulled back from our fisheries the increased sunshine followed by an influx of oxygentated water filter through the aging ice sheets. This process triggers larvea activity in many mud basins. This event is an invitation to the highly anticipated late ice “Bug dance”. The “Bug Dance” attracts other visitors to mud basins like the highly sought after “Borderland” Crappies!!

Many fellow “Ice Heads” like myself look forward to this all year long. Please don’t skip the sweatshirt Crappie fishing weather as we truly have unfinished business to tend to.

It is apparent we won’t be cheated in the open water arena, so if you can hear me through your winter ear muffs; Please……. I beg of you to allow us a couple weeks to finish scratching our late ice itch.

    That is all.

    Chris,
Looking at the state wide long range forcast, I’m not sure “Old Man Winter” is listening to you!
    You may have to YELL!
Beware though, you don’t want to Pi** him (or Her) off.
Good luck up there with your asking/Begging!

I saw on the news it was 61 degrees in the Falls yesterday. I know you want winter to continue but I myself am a summer guy. Open water can’t get here soon enough for me.

Be safe on the ice up there, it’s gonna be slick!!

Awesome post Chris, I couldn’t agree more I wish old man winter would slow down a bit, we got on by 4wheeler this past weekend and are anticipating duckboats and waders the next time we get out. Have to love the late ice bite.

had to step over about 1 ft of open water on the North shore on my way out yesterday. It was more than double on the way off. with the Temps, Rain, and winds last night and today i think we are about done here in the Metro. I ‘m heading to central Minnesota on Friday – Hope to get in one more weekend of fishing there.

Amen brother! This could be like a group therapy session for Ice-Fishermen Anonymous (IFA)

As an admitted ice-aholic I will now share my feelings with the group…

    Dear Mother nature,

Thank you sooo much for the amazing winter of fishing and rarely having to clear snow off of my driveway… However, I do wish you would have told me about it before I went out and picked up that snowblower

What’s really on my mind about this winter thing is… Well, I know I should be moving on, but just for old times sake, before we part ways for another year, I’m begging you, please…PLEASE! give us just 19 more days of fishable ice on LOW so I can make my first late ice pike trip up there and my good friends can make it up to chase slabs with Chris on the last weekend of March
