Can’t let Chris start all the threads here.

How many are going to Rainy, either on a guided trip or just fishing with friends? Will you get a Canadian license and a remote border crossing permit or just fish the states?

    Whats the targeted species?

Will you stay at a resort, houseboat, motel?

How many times have you fished Rainy?

Our first trip was last summer. Hope to go back up this coming summer. We stayed at a cabin on jackfish island. We chased and found walleyed and saugers. We stayed south last year and I’m guessing well do the same next time. If we do go back I’d like to make the marathon run to a couple of reefs. Love the area, hope to make it back up.

Hopefully twice, and 3 times if I can sell it to Mrs. Sportman.
Fish with friends, Canadian license and RABC.

Mostly fish walleyes but have caught good pike (biggest 41″) and occasionally hit the crappies pretty good.

Resort (well actually that’s being generous) let’s call it a camp – Stokes Bay Resort on the far east end of Rainy. Great spot!

Probably fished it a dozen or so times. Always a good time!

Planning on it. Wont be doing a houseboats this year. I might head up and fish with Chris for a day if mama will let me. My pitching skills have been getting better thanks to all the river time this winter. Reefs here I come. Might have to jig a little dang it a few times too!

Going up the 1st of June.Stay on the Cannuck side at a friends cabin. This will be year 6. Fish walleye, smallies, crappie and pike, in that order. It doesn’t get much better than that. Can’t wait.

I will be heading up to Rainy again this summer for the 6th time. We stay at a resort near Voyagers and target walleye primarily but several of us in the group like to target smallies once in a while. We do not cross into Canandian waters and are still trying to learn the Minnesota side. We are usually there during the 2nd full week of June. I am the guy in the red Crestliner that waves to everyone. I have watched this site for years and have appreciated all of the insight everyone is willing to share.

I would love to. I know there are plenty of eyes and smallies, but how good is the northern fishing for both numbers and size. Are they easy to find. My wife is a northern person and I have been looking for a trip to somewhere closer for them. And on any particular side of the lake? I’d like to change from one Canadian trip of 11 hours one way to maybe several trips of 5 hours or so.

I’m hoping to spend quite a bit of time at the cabin this summer. Hopefully the water levels come up to normal so we can in and out of our place.

Hoping to get up. Started a new job and time off is hard to come by. Usually fish both sides with RABC. Targets are Pike Bass and Walleyes. We only keep a few eaters otherwise catch and release. Never use live bait and only fish shallow (Don’t know how to fish deep). Been going to Rainy since 1980 and stay on a Rainy Lake Houseboats. The Dougherty family has always been great to my crew. Pics are my bro with a nice walleye. My son with his first 40″ pike. I started before the slot was in place and the fishing has gotten better every year since it was imposed.

Heading up the end of June to hook up with Chris to help re-introduce me to the “New” Rainy Lake and let my oldest son experience fishing at its finest. Target is ‘Eyes but hey, what comes along, comes along. Used to fish what seemed like every day the weather let us from when I was 6 until I got married. But that was 35 years ago. 3 times since then Will also use the time up north (2 whole weeks) to check out properties on Rainy and Kab’… about time to get out of the big city and settle down to some serious fishing. Not enough hours in this “old mans’s” life to waste fighting traffic and trying to keep up with neighbor’s Tru-green lawn. Will fish the American side and then hit several of the smaller lakes between the Falls and Bemidji. Bring on the MELT! I really hate/fear the ice, but that’s another story!
