16 years ago today I was a driven 23 year old…….KID who unknowlingly had just embarked on one of lifes biggest challenges. Raising a baby girl within the “Hustle and Bustle” of today’s changing world. Oh SURE how I had such big plans on what I would teach her, and how I could pour my soul into her inner being. We’d surely tackle the world, slam the baseketball, hit the ball over the fence, and wow modern day society.

Today I’m 16 years older…….I’m “OFF ICE” and frankly couldn’t feel more proud of that little girl who’s turned 16 today despite of being raised by a fishing guide. We’re both skipping class, and then taking the infamous DRIVERS TEST!! She says my Snowmobile helmet is excessive and doesn’t think it is funny I wear it while she drives.

Looking back 16 years ago I ponder how silly I truly was and how little I actually knew about raising a girl. Though I thought I’d teach her the inner workings of our world as it turned out I simply introduced her to it. If there is truly a teacher in this crazy world I’d argue the kids lead the class.

16 years……Man what a gift we’ve been given!!Thanks Linds!! You make us all so darn proud. Happy BDAY Girl!!

May you continue to attack life with passion and remember life is one heck of a ride that is much more fun with sunglasses on!!

A “Gangsta” sign doesn’t mean your in a gang rather your Living life with a bit of attitude.

Maybe somedays you feel like turning your hat on backwards and care less what people think about it.

You’ll always get out of life precisely what your willing to put into it.

I know what your saying Chris. It seems If you teach them values, they hold onto them even though they run into problems. Values are something they hold on to and something they can scratch thier backs on for the rest of thier lives, Its a roller coaster ride forsure and you can only hope to guide them.

Very cool Chris! I got to enjoy that same day on April 4th, 2011. As a joke and to lighten the attitude of the guy taking her for her driving test at the DMV, she had her Bell helmet in the passenger seat—with all the Nitro Circus stickers plastered all over it. The look on the guy was priceless!

Love that statement about life. I always viewed it as you’ll get back from your kids exactly what you invest into them.
    Good luck at the DMV

Good luck on the DT. Congrats Chris and Lindsay on your BD. The helmet is a nice touch. I’ve raised 2 boys and a girl and there were times I didn’t think I new a thing about raising them. But they sure turned out fine in spite of what I taught them.

CONGRATS to both daughter and dad. Chris – I can only speak from the father view (I have grown son and daughter). I am sure we will both agree that they grow up too soon. Chris – if you haven’t experienced the “OMG you are so stupid” dad phase yet, hang on. They all go through it, just a matter of how bad for how long. The flip side is NOTHING is cooler than when they reach the point of actually ASKING the old man for help again. Hang in there — BOTH of you.

LOL!! Oh we’ve been through that one!! She told me a couple years ago during a “FAMILY DISCUSSION” that ALL the kids in her class know that I am the strictest dad of all time!! I calmly smiled and said “Thank GOODNESS, because I’m growing tired of trying to prove it”

Though “Hill Climbing” to the Daze Compound is simply a way of life I’ve decided Linds should use Cheryls Jeep since it is a bit less cumbersome than my truck. Still Not sure if the Fishing Queen is going to buy it.

I should mention on her behalf. Our roadways have become further cluttered as “Lil Daze” will behind the wheel with a PASS from the Drill Sargeant posing as a driving instructor.

Heck I got a stomache ache being around that gal.

You are soooooo right! We are VERY proud of you, Lindsey! And, Chris, I am beaming with pride at the man you have become, too! To everyone reading Rainy Daze posts, this guy is as good at parenting as he is at fishing! (The helmet was a little excessive, however! )

    Great post Chris

And the good times will keep on rolling as you watch your children making their own path in life.

I love the helmet thing I did the same, only I was wearing a hockey helmet, while test driving with my daughter.

    Happy Birthday Lindsay

There is no question Mt. Granrud leading to the Daze Compound has challenged the most experienced drivers!!

Happy Birthday Lindsey (a little late) Congratulations Chris. Mt Granrud, ha ha, yes, it’s pretty bad when you’ve been driving for 49 years and have to ask the “Fishing Queen” the best way to get down it.
