Filmed on Rainy Lake, Mn – December 21, 2011. Chris Granrud, RainyDaze Guide Service @ http://www.rainydazeoutdoors.com/, grows tired of the slow improvements in ice conditions that have hindered ATV travel and decides to take a long walk to one of his favorite spots. A HUGE pike is his reward!

Took a couple quick snapshots to try give this magnificent fish a bit of justice. I’ve named her “Girthy Gretta”. Certainly not the biggest Pike we’ve tangled with, but one I’m very very proud of. She put a BRUTAL fight up which lasted about 15 minutes. I took this fish on a Perch Sweetheart laced with 10/2 Powerpro and a 6lb Fluoro lead!! It was just so much fun and that much better knowing I’d be able to take some of you boys along on that BIG PIKE RIDE!! I simply tend to lose some composure when the elite fish come topside. I know many of you have seen Granrud gone Crazy when we ice a big girl!! It is just the pinnacle of a lot of hard work. In the boat it is fantastic, but through an 8 inch hole on a small jig stick it is simply UNREAL!! Thanks guys for taking the time to share in my excitement and I hope to take many of you with me 3 minutes at a time for the 2011 Ice fishing BEATDOWN!!

I swear in real life…..This fish looked as though she’d swallowed the Christmas GOOSE!! 40.5 inches is darn respectable, but 22lbs on a roughly 40 inch fish is CRAZY CHUBBY!!

BTW this fish gave me a face full of cold Rainy lake water as she shot back to the bottom!! She’s waiting for you boys and probably has already gained some further…….”HOLIDAY WEIGHT!!”

Been waiting patiently for this post. James mentioned you iced a big girl and you had it on film. That is a beauty. Impressive fish through the ice on light line.

Thanks so much guys. This new series of “On Ice” clips through In Depth Outdoors will enable me to bring many of you along on each and every ice adventure. I expect we’ll see a lot of fun fishing moments that in the past was left to the imagination of many. I received an email last night that I thought was worth sharing. “Granruds fishing on Rainy Lake brings literally brings the Scream out of grown men!!” Sometimes it is the fishing guide. LOL!!

Funny thing is I seem to be as excited or MORE than our customers. SO MUCH FUN! Enjoy the clip men and I hope It is my hope 3 minutes at a time I’ll provide both fun and educational information when it comes to ice fishing big fisheries. My vision is with my inclusion in this series I may give anglers a inside look at being a fishing guide on Rainy Lake. I am going to try film the NOT so glorious stuff as well. Maybe hucking a snowmobile out of the slush or moving permanent fish houses. Maybe an Imbedded hook in my finger or a nice snowmoblie ride into the majestic Voyageurs National Park. Whatever we do I’m taking you boys along!! I realize I won’t be able to fish with everyone of you, but those who do may very well be the next guys hollering “We’re ON ICE BABY!!”

Great fish Chris! One question though, how many extra clothes do you bring? It has to get awful cold heading home after reaching in the water all day. That’s going above and beyond.

Hey Ben!! 2 days ago when I caught that Pike I had marked a few small walleyes on the bottom around 1pm. 1:30 pm I hooked into that big pike. I was wet and frozen capturing that footage. After releasing the pike I loaded up my Otter and headed for “Camp Daze”. I believe the Walleyes would have moved in assuming the pike didn’t end up playing “Guard Pike”. Once arriving home I thawed out and started uploading the clip for all to enjoy.

Yesterday I was back out searching for “Rainy Lake Gold” once again. I have been working different areas evertime I get a chance trying to further my reach on these 2 days that I didn’t have customers. This meant leaving PIKE MOUNTAIN!! Yesterdays adventure had me arriving to the spot around 2pm and fishing until about 4:30pm. That Adventure……..will be my next “ON ICE” clip with In Depth Outdoors, and yes I found some gold! “I aint sayin your a Gold Digger”.

LOL!! No question that was a cold dip. I couldn’t feel my hand that had gripped the BEAST. There was simply no other way to get that fish topside. Wet……COLD…….CUT and LOVING every minute of it Blackbay!! BTW I headed back to camp after that adventure. Didn’t have a heater along, and even several vitory laps around my Otter fish house couldn’t warm my wet arms!!
