What a beautiful weekend on the ice here in “Borderland”. I hope many of you were able to soak some bait somewhere. With temperatures approaching 40 degrees Ice anglers in the “Ice Box” were greeted with spring like weather in December. Though the sweatshirt fishing was nice we look forward to further ice development. As our sheet continues to expand we can safely increase our mobility while uncovering secrets of this complex fishery. We only fished two partial days as we worked placing fish houses; Our biggest walleye of the weekend was this beautiful 28 inch Rainy Lake Tanker!! Congratulations to Tucker for icing his personal best Walleye on Day 1 of his season with us!! UDAMAN Tuck!! The big fish parade begins!!

Thanks Dave. It was truly an honor for our guide service to grace the cover of Otter Outdoors.

Thanks for noticing that pic Matt. It is my favorite pic of the weekend. That face says I LOVE ICE FISHING in my book. When catching a big fish is…..Ho Hum……Then we’ll move to another sport. Watching others enjoy the sport of ice fishing keeps me motivated to keep our customers on the biggest and baddest fish possible. I assure you it isn’t ALL fun and games. Still this weekends helpers are my longtime friends. We’re truly just an average group of guys that love to try figure out big fish. We’ll often bow out of the pail full of 13 inch eaters. We seek big fish whenever possible. When hooked up everyone crowds the house. I race to customers house like a kid after too many Mountain Dews!! We figured this was a big Walleye, but with the large Gators being around you truly never know for sure. I was snapping some pics showcasing the intensity of Tucks face when I hear……… “CHRIS YOU HAVE TO GET THAT THING!! GRAB IT GRAB IT!!” Tuckers dad Andy bowed out of the responsibility allowing me to shift into position. I’m pretty sure Andy didn’t want to face Tuck if that bruiser would shake the hooks at the hole. We had just had a bad experience with a big big pike at the hole, so everyone might have been a bit on edge. I was fortunate enough to pin that big girl under the ice and slide her home for a few pics and a quick release. I’m very happy for Tucker on his first 28+ through the ice. Needless to say I think Andy is one proud father and who wouldn’t be. A great accomplishment for a grown man. He fought that fish like a pro. Over the years ice fishing with Tucker I’ve enjoyed watching his development into a great hardwater angler. We like to pick on him of course, but it’s all in fun. He played the fish perfectly and I assure you this fish gave us all a heck of a thrill!!

BTW Tucker has been no stranger to big fish over recent years as the youngest member of our S&D Ice Team. Here’s a few highlights from some of his recent years fishing with us. We continue to expect big things from him……..he continues to deliver.

Andy was a bit snake bit this weekend BK. When lacing up big fish sometimes things simply don’t go as we’d like. Andy had one of those weekends. Was broke off a few too many times for anyones liking. I assure you Big fish redemption is on his mind as I henpeck here on IDO tonight. BTW he nearly broke another pole on a massive fish. Presumably he hooked a giant pike on rod and reel. Earlier that day we lost a 35-36 inch pike at the hole.

Another great time Going back to the drawing board on line set-ups. Rainy has walleyes on roids and waterwolves that have shark like teeth. Make sure your equipment is up to the challenge I believe my rod is going to work , but need to rethink line. 4lb P-line got scothed at a few times this weekend.
