Much of Northern Minnesota has experienced a dry fall. How will this translate to the hardwater Walleye bite of 2011/12? Remember Rainy Lake is technically speaking a reservoir. The Dam here in Ifalls seperates the Lake of the Woods/Rainy river fishery from Rainy Lake. Our water flows East to West. Here is what I can tell you from past years when we also experienced lower water levels leading into the winter months; Current strength of course will be reduced. Our lake tends to lock up earlier (Weather permitting) simply because of lessened current. The bite also seems to extend deeper into the season for those elite caliber Walleyes and Pike. A couple years in particular I’ve clearly noted fish cooperating very nicely through the month of February into March. This of course can leave our guide service with a bit of a dilemna as normall we chase monster Crappies from Mid February through the first week in April. Fish in years past are further concentrated due to less secondary current runs that in theory may hold pods of fish with normal water levels. The 2011/12 season is clearly setting up quite nicely for an “Extended” BIG FISH PARADE!! Come on up and help me toss down some candy to the marchers. Looking ahead towards the end of our 10 day forecast; Highs in the low 30’s and lows in the teens. YEAH BOY!!

For those looking for minimal help this season, OR looking to save a few bucks you may want to inquire about our House rental/Resort room package. This may allow guys to do a guided trip one day and a house rental the next. This has also been designed for the guy that wants to chase Crappies and walleyes, but can’t swing two guided trips. Our small satelite house and lodging package has been well received and seemingly a very attractive package.

For groups looking to fish shoulder to shoulder with me on a fully guided trip we do still have some prime dates available. LORD……… quit work if need be to “Puck Drop” in the month of December. I assure you I WILL be fishing every second possible in December!! We’ll be running and gunning for tankers again this season and frankly CANNOT WAIT!!

I must admit I’m a bit excited to see the first mark show up on the Marcum LX-7!!

Here are a few smiles from our “COLD GOLD” chasers last year.
