It has been a very common answer in our boat this fall. Series of events unfolding….Huge Hookset…Smile….”Is it a Good One?…….”Yep it’s another BIG ONE GRANRUD!!”

Believe it or not our water temperatures have truly not dropped to what I would deem optimum Big Fish/Fall Frenzy, Strap yourself in your Fighting chair, Drag screaming, Rod snapping fishing conditions. Still the big fish have been the “Norm” on fishing trips again here in October.

As an Outdoors addict I sometimes find myself thinking about setting blocks up in the back creek persuading those big orange feet within range of my O/U Silver Pigeon. Still The good lord has blessed these untamed waters here in “Borderland” and the fish haunt me as they call my name each morning!

If there is one common question that we field via PM, Email or phone call it is “WHEN is the BEST time to plan our fishing trip to Rainy lake”. Over the years I’ve………Believe it or not Came up with a few long winded answers; I’m working on that. Still in a more precise/concise response I would now say if you can break away from your daily obligations at work and home there is CLEARLY NOT a bad time to be here. BUT MAN OH MAN is this…..RIGHT NOW a wonderful time to soak bait as a fish hunter in BIG FISH COUNTRY.

Special thanks to Brent, Dave and Gayle for letting Rainydaze Guide Service share in your big fish expedition with you here on Rainy lake. I certainly look forward to lacing up some giant pike with you this spring, and feel fortunate that I believe we’ll be lacing up big fish for years to come.

A special congratulations goes out to Gayle. Not all of us are afforded the time to perfect our Walleye fishing. Still Gayle proves to be a very fast learner simply wearing her wrists out on the Big girls of Fall on the Majestic Rainy Lake!!

As my season winds down and the woods also call my name I’d like to send a sincere thank you to everyone who uses our guide service. You truly make my career the most rewarding venture a fisherman could ever ask for.

Although you might not see our daily arm straining pictures in the coming weeks rest assured we’ll be back in FORCE here in December with whole new surge of big fish beatdowns!!

NOW……..BBB (Big Bucks Beware) Rainydaze is soon leaving the boat!! (I actually was looking for the “Double Gunslinger” Graemlin Holst!!) NEED TO ADD. Possibly with the Clint Eastwood whistling.

I find it interesting how the colors in some of those walleyes are so different…Dark Gold to Pale Gray. Those arnt all from the same area Im assuming?

Very good observation. Actually your partially correct in your thinking. Though these fish during the fall are indeed caught mainly in the same areas it is true the color of the fish can be a key indicator as to where these fish might choose to call home for a good part of the summer. For example river fish/weed walleyes will have a much different color than say a deep basin Cisco chasing walleye. A Sand Bay Walleye will often have a much different look than a East end fish an so on. During the months of July and August a keen eye can often times determine the general location the fish was taken from.
